Rock, paper, scissors
Time: 45 minutes, Level: beginner

Project Idea

Creating a simple game using micro:bit

This game is a classic game of chance for two people. You and a partner shake your fists 3 times and then make gestures at random to show a rock, paper or scissors. Rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper and paper beats rock (it wraps the rock!).

Rules of play

Rock, Paper, Scissors is a simple game played between two players using three hand gestures: rock, paper, and scissors. The rules are straightforward: rock beats scissors by smashing them, scissors beat paper by cutting it, and paper beats rock by wrapping it. If both players choose the same gesture, the round ends in a tie. To play, both players simultaneously reveal their chosen gesture after a countdown, often saying "Rock, Paper, Scissors, Shoot!" The winner is determined based on these rules, and if there’s a tie, the round is replayed. While the game is primarily based on chance, players can incorporate strategy by predicting their opponent’s next move during repeated rounds.
